Biography

King ADZ is a writer & director who has devoted his life to street culture. In the early noughties, he was a founding member of the original street art community working with artists such as Banksy, Blek, Hush, Invader, Obey and Swoon, wrote several books, and made a couple of feature documentaries about this time of his life.

For the past 25 years he has been creating commercials, branded content, TV and feature documentaries across Europe, North America, Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa — writing and directing for agencies including Havas, Ogilvy, DDB, Brave Bison and Mr President, and longer-form work for Channel 4, YouTube, Vice/Munchies, Absolut, Zinc Media, Salon Pictures and Intersteller.

He has written and directed three feature documentaries — Original Stencil Pioneer (2006), The Iconoclast (2017) and Slawn: The Upsetter (2026) — all of which have won awards and had global distribution.

Film-making is in his blood: he comes from a long line of film editors, and his grandfather Peter Taylor won an Oscar for editing The Bridge on the River Kwai in 1958, and created the ‘new-wave’ style of editing in This Sporting Life.

‘Over the last decade, I’ve forged my own visual style, which runs through TVCs, social ads, and even the longer form documentaries I’ve been lucky enough to make. My obsession with all aspects of street culture — style, food, sounds — which was once a sub-culture, has given me this edge over the more traditional of film-makers, as by now, this culture has become the wallpaper of the younger generations. For this I’m eternally grateful.’ — King ADZ
